Frequently asked questions
What exactly does the tool remove?
It removes vowel marks (fatha, damma, kasra, sukun), tanween, shadda, dagger alif and Quranic pause/elongation marks, with an option to remove tatweel.
Are the letters themselves changed?
No. Letters stay exactly as they are — hamzas, ta marbuta and alif maqsura are never altered; only the marks above and below letters are deleted.
Why remove diacritics?
Unvocalized text is easier to search, match and index, and is better suited for general publishing, since diacritics are rarely used outside religious and educational texts.
Does it work for Quranic text?
It removes recitation and pause marks too, but note that some Uthmani script features may need extra handling depending on the text source.
