Frequently asked questions
What is the Umm al-Qura calendar?
It is the official Hijri calendar of Saudi Arabia, based on precise astronomical calculations to determine the start of lunar months, covering the years 1300–1600 AH.
What year range does the converter support?
It supports Hijri years 1300 to 1600 AH, the documented range of the Umm al-Qura calendar. Outside this range, month starts become estimates.
Why do some Hijri months have 29 days and others 30?
A true lunar month is about 29.5 days, so Hijri months alternate between 29 and 30 days according to the astronomical calculation. If you pick a day that does not exist (like the 30th of a 29-day month), the converter warns you.
Is the conversion based on actual moon sighting?
No, it uses the astronomical Umm al-Qura calculation. Countries that rely on local moon sighting may differ by one day, especially for Ramadan and the two Eids.
